GENERAL INFORMATION
The interscholastic athletics program at TEMS emphasizes participation, fun, and safety. We offer a variety of sports that support both the athletic and social development of our students. These programs are open to all 7th and 8th grade students, in accordance with PIAA guidelines. For many students, participating in interscholastic sports is an important part of school life. Our program highlights the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and active participation.
HOW TO GET STARTED
Students should listen to the morning announcements for information on team meetings and the first practice dates. Informal sign-ups are also available during lunch periods in the cafeteria.
For questions about practice start times or general team information, students and parents can contact the athletic or main office, or speak directly with team coaches.
REQUIRED PAPERWORK
To participate in interscholastic sports, students must complete all required paperwork, including:
-
ImPACT baseline concussion test
-
PIAA Comprehensive Initial Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation (CIPPE)
All forms must be submitted electronically through PowerSchool. For full instructions, please visit the Participation Paperwork link above.
ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY
To remain eligible:
-
A student may not be failing more than one (1) major subject or more than three (3) special area classes.
-
If a student fails to meet academic standards during any grading period, they will be ineligible for the first four (4) weeks of the next grading period.
TEAM SELECTION
We encourage all students to participate in any of the sports offered. However, certain teams select players through a try-out process. Currently, those teams are boys and girls basketball and boys baseball. The try-out schedule will be posted on the athletic bulletin board, outside the main office, and on the athletic page on the school website. They will also be announced on the morning announcements.
INFORMATION MEETINGS
Before the first practice, coaches generally hold team meetings to provide details about proper attire, equipment, expectations, schedules, etc. Practices generally end at 5:00 PM, and parents must arrange prompt pick-up for student-athletes. For daily updates on practices, games, and weather-related changes, please check Schoology.

ImPACT TEST
All student-athletes playing an “impact” sport (all except track and field) must have an ImPACT baseline test completed before participating. Track and field athletes are permitted but not required to have a baseline test. A baseline test is good for two years, therefore student-athletes typically take one baseline test during their athletic career at VFMS. Testing dates and times are offered at the beginning of every season. Those dates are posted on our school calendar and stated on the morning announcements.
